Travel inland to Sigiriya, allowing around four hours for the drive before sightseeing stops. Join a village walk for an introduction to everyday rural life, then check in and enjoy a relaxed evening near the Cultural Triangle.

Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress early, before the heat builds. Explore the ancient gardens and climb the stone stairways to the palace ruins, where wide views stretch across the forested plains. Your guide shares the stories behind the fortress; the afternoon allows time to rest after the climb.

Continue toward Kandy with a visit to the cave temples of Dambulla. Along the way, learn about local spices and herbs in a garden and visit a Hindu temple. These visits focus on culture and discovery; purchases at any garden or showroom are optional. Arrive in Kandy and settle into your hotel.

Spend the morning among the tropical collections of the Royal Botanic Gardens at Peradeniya, then visit a gem museum for an introduction to Sri Lanka’s gemstones. In the evening, enjoy a Kandyan cultural dance performance and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. The order of the evening visits follows the confirmed programme.

Head into the cooler highlands, where winding roads pass emerald tea-covered slopes. Visit a tea plantation and a working factory to follow the journey from leaf to cup, then taste a selection of Ceylon teas. Continue to Nuwara Eliya and check in for a peaceful hill-country evening.

Transfer to the railway station for the scenic journey toward Ella, passing tea estates, villages and mountain valleys. Train travel and seats depend on confirmed reservations and operating conditions; a road transfer is arranged if the train cannot run. If the weather and local conditions allow, stop at a waterfall. Swimming is considered only if your guide confirms conditions are suitable. An evening restaurant dinner in Ella is at your own expense, as noted in the original programme.

Begin with a walk to Little Adam’s Peak for views across Ella’s green valleys. Continue to the Nine Arch Bridge and enjoy its setting among the hills. Later, join a Sri Lankan cooking class to discover local ingredients, fragrant spices and the techniques behind traditional dishes.

Descend from the highlands toward the drier landscapes around Yala. After arriving, head out on an afternoon jeep safari to look for elephants, deer, crocodiles, birdlife and the elusive Sri Lankan leopard. Sightings depend on the animals and conditions on the day; park access and the safari timing are confirmed locally.

Travel to Udawalawe for a safari through open landscapes known for wild elephants. Later, visit the Elephant Transit Home, the rehabilitation centre referred to as an elephant orphanage in the original itinerary. Observe from the designated viewing area; the visit is scheduled around the centre’s public access arrangements.

Continue to the southern coast and walk through the historic streets and ramparts of Galle Fort. Travel north for a reflective visit to the tsunami museum near Hikkaduwa before your final transfer to RIU Ahungalla, as proposed in the original itinerary, or another agreed beach hotel.
